General Disposal Steps:
- Stainless Steel / carbon steel Vessels/Piping are cleaned, decontaminated, and then typically recycled as industrial metal scrap.
- Determine if the gasket is rubber, metal, PTFE, or asbestos.
- Separate metal gaskets from rubber/composite materials to facilitate recycling of metal components.
- If the gasket was used with hazardous chemicals or oil, it must be treated as hazardous waste. Grease & used oil is also hazardous waste.
- Detailed records of the waste type, quantity, and disposal method must be maintained for audits.
- Disposal must be performed by authorized, specialized vendors. Check local municipality or environmental regulations for industrial waste disposal (landfills, specialized recyclers).
- Metal Gaskets can be treated as scrap metal.
- Mechanical Seals (Complete Unit):Drain all fluids and decontaminate the seal before disposal to authorized body.
- All personnel handling the equipment must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), such as goggles, gloves, and masks.
