General Disposal Steps:

  1. Stainless Steel / carbon steel Vessels/Piping are cleaned, decontaminated, and then typically recycled as industrial metal scrap.
  1. Determine if the gasket is rubber, metal, PTFE, or asbestos.
  1. Separate metal gaskets from rubber/composite materials to facilitate recycling of metal components.
  1. If the gasket was used with hazardous chemicals or oil, it must be treated as hazardous waste. Grease & used oil is also hazardous waste.
  1. Detailed records of the waste type, quantity, and disposal method must be maintained for audits.
  1. Disposal must be performed by authorized, specialized vendors. Check local municipality or environmental regulations for industrial waste disposal (landfills, specialized recyclers).
  1. Metal Gaskets can be treated as scrap metal.
  1. Mechanical Seals (Complete Unit):Drain all fluids and decontaminate the seal before disposal to authorized body.
  1. All personnel handling the equipment must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), such as goggles, gloves, and masks.
